Marky Romone is a writer and photographer who often shares his travels on the blog Nomadic Experiences, including a visit to Iwasaki village in Gujo Machiman, Japan in May. This is the cradle of the industry.
Model food is displayed and sold in many places in Japan.
According to Marky’s research, Takizo Mokei was the founder of the fake food manufacturing company Iwasaki Mokei in 1932. Takizo’s first creations were made from candle wax, but this product line quickly spoiled in hot weather.
Marky and his group of friends followed Tomoko-san, the tour guide, to Sample Village Iwasaki to see firsthand the art of making fake food by the people here.

Marky dipped his hand into the water bath and followed the instructions.
Marky compares workers who make model foods to having the talent of sculptors.
Sample Village Iwasaki is located at 250 Hachimancho-Jonancho, Gujo City, Gifu, Japan.
