On the afternoon of May 16, Chairman of Hai Phong City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tung and leaders of departments and branches worked with the Board of Directors of Quan Toan Primary School regarding two teachers beating students during semester exams.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Principal of the school, informed that after receiving feedback from parents, on May 9, school leaders reported to superiors.
Camera images show that Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang (homeroom teacher of class 2A8, assigned to supervise exams in class 2A7) repeatedly slapped the temple and used a ruler to hit the leg of the student sitting in the first desk named Duc.
Determining that Ms. Trang’s actions were wrong, in the report the teacher expressed remorse. On May 10, the school’s Disciplinary Council met and suspended the teacher from her work for one month and from teaching for 6 months.
Regarding Ms. Pham Thi Van, Principal Hoa said that in the report, the teacher said that during exam time, some children sitting at the back of the class walked around on their own, so she `lightly` hit them to keep them in order.
As for the German student, Principal Hoa said he has actively visited and encouraged him, hoping that his health will soon be stable so he can return to class.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang cried and apologized to city leaders and students’ families.
Present at the meeting, teacher Trang hugged her face and cried, apologizing to the leaders of the city, Hong Bang district, the Department of Education and Training and Duc’s family.
Ms. Van also admitted her mistake to city leaders.
Thinking that Ms. Trang’s actions were child abuse, Ms. Nguyen Nhu Anh (Duc’s mother) asked the authorities to handle `the right person` so that the teacher as well as other teachers could see this as a necessary lesson.
`I apologize for posting the video recording the scene of Ms. Trang and Ms. Van beating the student on social networks. Seeing my child like that, I couldn’t keep calm and was too hasty. I should have filed a petition with the authorities.`
Regarding reports that Duc had an ear infection, congestion of the left eardrum, and pus in the eardrum, Lieutenant Colonel Le Nguyen Truong, Deputy Director of the City Police, informed that through assessment, the child’s health was not affected.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tung affirmed that the incident had a negative impact on the city, the responsibility first belongs to the school board of directors, then the leaders of Quan Toan ward, Hong Bang district,
The city chairman requested Hong Bang district to consider reviewing and disciplining the Board of Directors of Quan Toan Primary School and teacher Trang in the highest form to set an example for the entire education sector;
