Mark Ruffalo was born in 1967 into a middle-class family in the US, with a father of Italian descent and a mother of French-Canadian descent.

In the early 1990s, Ruffalo entered the acting profession by co-founding a small theater – where he wrote, directed and acted in many plays.

The gentle European lover of psychological dramas

Fate came to Mark Ruffalo when he met director and screenwriter Kenneth Lonergan.

While the story was nominated for `Best Original Screenplay` at the Oscars, Ruffalo was praised for his realistic performance, exuding a portrait of a lover who is both gentle, strong and trustworthy.

After You Can Count on Me, Ruffalo took on a series of male and secondary male roles in psychological films such as XX/XY (2002), In The Cut (2003), Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind (2004).

In 2005, he brought tears to viewers’ eyes when starring in Just Like Heaven – an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Marc Levy.

In the second half of the 2000s, Ruffalo participated in a wider variety of genres although still promoting his strength in psychological films.

2010 marked a turning point in Mark Ruffalo’s career when he received his first Oscar nomination for his role as Paul Hatfield in the film The Kids Are All Right directed by female director Lisa Cholodenko.

By 2012, Mark Ruffalo had an amazing transformation when he took on the role of the Hulk – Hulk/Bruce Banner – in Marvel’s superhero blockbuster The Avengers.

Creating the Hulk character simulates Mark Ruffalo’s appearance from his eyes to his teeth.

Initially, Marvel invited Edward Norton to participate in writing the script for The Avengers as well as invite him to recur in the work that brings together the superhero group.

The Avengers is Marvel’s passion project, developed for nearly 10 years.

In the movie, the Hulk character has a complex interiority and performs many dramatic action scenes.

Third Oscar nomination for `Spotlight`

After nearly half a decade of playing Hulk, Ruffalo has become an actor known to world blockbuster fans.

Most recently, Ruffalo played the supporting male role in the movie Spotlight.

The new role helped the 48-year-old actor receive his third Oscar nomination, also in the `Best Supporting Actor` category.

In addition to acting, Mark Ruffalo also tried his hand at being a director with the movie Sympathy for Delicious.
