The patient is currently inseparable from the ECMO (extracorporeal blood oxygenation system) machine.

Meanwhile, to prepare for a lung transplant, the patient must have a thorough scan to evaluate their overall health status.

`CT scan images will help clearly assess the patient’s lung damage,` said Dr. Chau.

After receiving the results of the CT scan on May 18, the Professional Council of the Ministry of Health will consult to decide on the appropriate treatment plan.

CT Scan, also known as computed tomography, uses multiple X-rays to scan an area of the body, then processes it with a computer to produce a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image of the part that needs to be scanned.

The time for a computed tomography scan depends on each patient and each part that needs to be scanned.

According to Dr. Chau, patients will have CT scans in conditions to prevent cross-infection in the imaging diagnostic area and the entire hospital during the transportation process.

This is the second time the patient has had a CT scan in two months of Covid-19 treatment.

Doctor Nguyen Thanh Phong, Head of Infection Department D, said the process of conducting a CT scan on a patient is very strenuous.

The British pilot had to undergo ECMO intervention for 43 days and is currently lying still, using sedatives.

The patient has tested negative continuously for more than 10 days now, and the infection is controlled at a `temporary` level.

This is the most severe Covid-19 patient, with very erratic health developments.

Patients with blood clotting disorders suffer from `cytokine storm` syndrome, which means the immune system overreacts, releasing many cytokines that fight the body instead of protecting it.

The patient is a Vietnam Airlines pilot, lives in Ho Chi Minh City, and has been to a number of dining and entertainment venues, including Buddha Bar & Grill, the city’s largest outbreak.
